Synoptic weather observation

A standardized set of meteorological measurements taken simultaneously at numerous stations across a wide geographical area at designated synoptic hours. These observations include parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity, wind, cloud cover, and precipitation. They are encoded and transmitted for use in synoptic analysis and numerical weather prediction.
