Synoptic station

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009479

A meteorological observing site that collects and transmits weather data at regular, standardized intervals, typically every three or six hours. These stations measure surface parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction, precipitation, and cloud cover. The data from these stations are assimilated into numerical weather prediction models and used to create synoptic weather maps.
