Aircraft meteorological station

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010356

A system of instruments installed on an aircraft to measure and transmit meteorological parameters during flight. These stations provide valuable upper-air observations of temperature, wind speed and direction, and turbulence. Data from these platforms, often referred to as Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR), are assimilated into numerical weather prediction models.
