Wadi

An ephemeral riverbed or valley in an arid or semi-arid region that remains dry except during the rainy season. These features are characteristic of desert environments in North Africa and the Middle East. Following intense rainfall, wadis can quickly fill with fast-moving water, creating dangerous flash floods with little warning.
