Westerly wind burst

A short-lived period of unusually strong westerly winds that occurs in the tropical Pacific Ocean, particularly near the equator. These bursts can last from a few days to several weeks and are often associated with the onset or intensification of El Niño events. They contribute to the eastward propagation of warm water in the equatorial Pacific.
