Edge computing
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001247
A distributed computing architecture that processes data close to its source, such as on a rig or at a remote wellsite, rather than in a centralized cloud. Only summary results or alerts go to the central system, which cuts latency and bandwidth use. Local processing responds within milliseconds, whereas a round trip to a remote cloud region takes tens of milliseconds and far longer over satellite links.
