High performance computing (HPC)
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001822
The application of aggregated computing power to solve complex scientific and engineering problems far more quickly or on a larger scale than a single computer could. High performance computing (HPC) systems, which include supercomputers and computer clusters, are used for tasks like seismic data processing, reservoir simulation, and computational fluid dynamics. These systems are benchmarked by their floating-point operations per second (FLOPS), with the largest systems achieving exaflops.
