Reservoir simulation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004436
A computer modeling technique for forecasting fluid flow and pressure changes within a hydrocarbon reservoir over time. A digital model of the reservoir is constructed as a grid of cells, with each cell assigned geological and petrophysical properties like porosity and permeability. Using complex mathematical equations, the simulation calculates the movement of oil, gas, and water in response to production or injection activities, providing forecasts of production rates and cumulative recovery used to assess different field development strategies.
