Numerical reservoir simulation

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002578

The application of computational methods to predict the behavior of fluids within a petroleum reservoir over time. The reservoir volume is divided into a grid of discrete blocks, and fluid-flow equations are solved for each block at successive time steps. This technique is used to forecast production rates, estimate ultimate recovery, and evaluate different reservoir management strategies, such as well placement and enhanced oil recovery projects.
