Liquefied natural gas carrier
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004372
A purpose-built marine vessel designed for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) in bulk. The natural gas is cooled to approximately minus 162 degrees Celsius (minus 260 degrees Fahrenheit), reducing its volume for efficient long-distance sea transport. These ships feature insulated, cryogenic cargo tanks, which are either spherical Moss-type tanks or prismatic membrane-type tanks, to maintain the low temperature during the voyage.
