Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003147

The drilling fluid and entrained rock cuttings that flow out of the wellbore and back to the surface processing equipment. This circulating fluid travels up the annulus between the drill string and the casing or open hole. Monitoring the volume, flow rate, and properties of the returns is a primary method for detecting kicks, lost circulation, and changes in downhole formation characteristics.
