Neutral file
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000250
A standardized file format designed to be readable by many different CAD and CAM software applications, facilitating data exchange between otherwise incompatible systems. These formats, such as STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product model data) or IGES, store 3D model geometry in a non-proprietary way. Unlike native file formats, which are specific to one software vendor, a neutral file preserves geometric data for use across multiple platforms.
