Natural radiation background
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007789
The persistent level of ionizing radiation present in the environment from natural sources, without the contribution of human activities. It originates from two main categories: cosmic radiation from space and terrestrial radiation from radioactive elements in the Earth's crust, such as uranium and thorium. The global average background dose for a person is about 2.4 millisieverts (mSv) per year.
