Object traceability

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008169

The ability to follow an item, whether a sample, a reagent or a reference material, through its recorded identification and handling information, establishing its history, its use and its location. This matches the meaning of traceability in ISO quality-management standards. Metrological traceability is a different concept: it ties a measurement result to a stated reference by an unbroken, documented chain of calibrations.
