Risk reduction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010389

Actions taken to lessen the probability, negative consequences, or both, associated with a particular hazard. This process involves identifying and analyzing risks and then implementing measures to control or mitigate them to an acceptable level. In ecotoxicology, risk reduction strategies for a pesticide might include restricting its application rates, establishing buffer zones around water bodies, or substituting it with a less toxic alternative to minimize harm to non-target organisms and the environment.
