A legal right granted to the creator of original works of authorship, including literary, dramatic, musical, and certain other intellectual works. It gives the creator exclusive rights to reproduce, distribute, perform, display, and make derivative works of their creation for a limited time. In the United States, copyright protection generally lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years.
