A legal right granted to the creator of original works of authorship, including literary, dramatic, musical, and certain other intellectual works. This right gives the owner exclusive control over the reproduction, distribution, public performance, and adaptation of their work for a limited time. In the United States, copyright protection generally lasts for the life of the author plus 70 years.
