Degauss

To remove or reduce the magnetic field of an object, typically to erase data from magnetic storage media or to correct color distortions on a CRT monitor. This process involves applying an alternating magnetic field that gradually decreases in strength. Degaussing hard drives renders the data unrecoverable.
