A format for recording high-definition video on DV (Digital Video) cassette tapes. Introduced as a lower-cost alternative to professional high-definition formats, High-Definition Video (HDV) uses MPEG-2 compression to fit HD data onto standard MiniDV or DVCAM tapes. The format specifies resolutions of either 1280x720 progressive (720p) or 1440x1080 interlaced (1080i).
