A set of digital television broadcast standards and display resolutions that offer a higher quality picture than standard-definition (SD) formats. High Definition (HD) video is characterized by an increased number of pixels per frame, providing greater detail and clarity. The two most common HD resolutions are 1280x720 pixels (720p) and 1920x1080 pixels (1080i or 1080p), both using a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
