Minicomputer

A class of multi-user computers that emerged in the 1960s, offering less processing power and lower cost than mainframes but more than microcomputers. These systems were typically used for scientific and engineering computations, business data processing, and process control in smaller organizations or departments. DEC's PDP series and VAX systems were prominent examples of minicomputers.
