Northbridge

A microchip on a computer's motherboard that traditionally managed communication between the central processing unit (CPU) and high-speed components. It acted as the primary controller for the memory bus, the PCI Express bus for graphics cards, and the connection to the southbridge. In modern computer architectures, the functions of the northbridge have been integrated into the CPU itself.
