PCI-X
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000898
An extension of the Peripheral Component Interconnect bus standard that increased speed and performance for servers and workstations. PCI-X, or PCI-Extended, used a 64-bit bus and offered higher clock speeds, such as 66 MHz, 100 MHz, and 133 MHz, to support high-bandwidth devices like Gigabit Ethernet cards and RAID controllers. Although backward compatible with most standard PCI cards, it has been largely superseded by the PCI Express (PCIe) interface.
