Rational number
Term · Computing and IT · MLC-T-CMP-000995
A number that is expressed as the fraction or quotient p/q of two integers, where the numerator p is an integer and the non-zero denominator q is a positive integer. In computing, they are represented either by storing the numerator and denominator separately or by using floating-point data types, which approximate their value. Numbers like pi and the square root of 2 are irrational because they cannot be expressed as such a fraction.
