To change the state of a single bit to a value of one, also known as the 'on' or 'high' state. This operation is a fundamental instruction in low-level programming and digital logic, directly manipulating the binary data stored in memory or registers. The opposite operation, changing a bit's value to zero, is called clearing or resetting the bit.
