Metropolitan Area

Formerly, a collective term established by the Office of Management and Budget to refer to metropolitan statistical areas, consolidated metropolitan statistical areas, and primary metropolitan statistical areas. This concept was retired in 2003 with the introduction of the Core Based Statistical Areas concept.
