New England County Metropolitan Area

Formerly, a county-based alternative to the city-and-town-based metropolitan statistical areas and consolidated metropolitan statistical areas (CMSAs) of New England. (Outside of New England, all metropolitan statistical areas and CMSAs were county-based.) The NECMA concept was retired in 2003 with the introduction of the Core Based Statistical Areas concept.
