Canopy
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-004069
1. Canopy refers to the tree cover in an urban setting. Canopy size is an important determinant of a city's heat island reduction potential. The "urban fabric" can be characterized both above and below the canopy for a better understanding of the area's surface cover.
2. The top layer of a forest. The canopy shades and protects the plants and animals below it, while intercepting and slowing rainfall.
3. The layer formed naturally by the leaves and branches of trees and plants.
4. Top layer of a forest. The canopy shades and protects the plants and animals below it, while intercepting and slowing rainfall.
