Canopy

The uppermost layer of vegetation in an ecosystem, formed by the crowns of trees or other tall plants, which interacts directly with the atmosphere. This layer intercepts precipitation, modifies wind flow, and influences the exchange of heat, moisture, and gases between the land surface and the atmosphere. The canopy significantly impacts the microclimate beneath it.
