Interceptometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006583
An instrument or experimental setup designed to measure the amount of precipitation intercepted by a plant canopy. It quantifies the portion of rainfall or snowfall that adheres to leaves, stems, and branches and does not reach the ground directly. Data from interceptometers are used in hydrological and ecological studies to calculate interception loss, which is the amount of water returned to the atmosphere via evaporation from the canopy surface.
