Gross interception loss
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006078
The total amount of precipitation that is caught and held by vegetation surfaces, such as leaves and branches, and subsequently evaporates back into the atmosphere without reaching the ground. This process reduces the amount of rainfall available for infiltration or runoff. It is a component of the hydrological cycle and varies with vegetation type, density, and rainfall intensity.
