Initial rainfall
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006553
The precipitation that occurs at the beginning of a rain event, often characterized by its intensity and duration before a more sustained or heavier period of rainfall. This early phase of precipitation can have distinct hydrological impacts, such as wetting surfaces and contributing to initial runoff. Its characteristics are measured by rain gauges and weather radar systems.
