Rainfall excess

The portion of total rainfall that does not infiltrate the ground, evaporate, or fill surface depressions, and thus becomes surface runoff. This is the amount of precipitation that contributes directly to streamflow and potential flooding. It is calculated by subtracting initial losses and infiltration from the total rainfall.
