Canopy temperature

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004130

The temperature of the upper surface of a vegetation layer, representing the combined temperature of leaves, stems, and other plant parts exposed to the atmosphere. This temperature is a key indicator of plant physiological status, particularly water stress, and is often measured using infrared thermometers. It can differ significantly from air temperature due to transpiration and radiative exchange.
