Transpiration
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-002842
The process by which moisture is carried through plants from roots to small pores on the underside of leaves, where it changes to vapor and is released into the atmosphere. This is a major component of the water cycle, contributing significantly to atmospheric humidity. The rate of transpiration is influenced by factors such as temperature, humidity, and wind.
Water discharged into the atmosphere from plant surfaces.
