Evaporation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000900
The physical process by which liquid water transforms into water vapor and rises into the atmosphere. This phase change requires energy, which is absorbed from the surrounding environment, leading to a cooling effect. It is a primary component of the global water cycle, transferring moisture from surfaces like oceans, lakes, and soil into the air.
The process of a liquid changing into a vapor or gas, usually water in meteorology.
