Evaporation fog
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005489
A type of fog that forms when cold, dry air moves over a relatively warm body of water, causing rapid evaporation from the water surface. The evaporated water vapor then cools and condenses into fog as it mixes with the colder air. This phenomenon is also known as steam fog or sea smoke, and it is common over lakes and oceans in autumn and winter.
