Frost smoke

A type of steam fog that forms when very cold air moves over relatively warmer open water or moist ground. The rapid evaporation of water into the cold air, followed by condensation, creates a dense, low-lying fog. It is commonly observed over unfrozen lakes or rivers in arctic and subarctic regions during winter.
