Water deficit

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010103

A condition where the available water in an environment, such as soil or a plant, is insufficient to meet the demands for evapotranspiration or physiological processes. This imbalance occurs when precipitation and irrigation are less than the water lost through evaporation and transpiration. Prolonged water deficit can lead to drought conditions and plant stress.
