Saturation deficit

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008657

The difference between the amount of water vapor required to saturate the air at a given temperature and the actual amount of water vapor present. It represents the capacity of the air to hold additional moisture before reaching saturation. A larger saturation deficit indicates drier air and a greater potential for evaporation.
