Causal Association
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-004390
1. A relationship between two variables in which a change in one brings about a change in the other.
2. A correlation or other association between measures or observations of two entities or processes, that occurs because of an underlying causal relationship.
3. Presence or absence of a variable (e.g. smoking) is responsible for an increase or decrease in another variable (e.g. cancer). A change in exposure leads to a change in the outcome of interest.
4. Relationship between different types of observations; these relationships become lines of evidence supporting or weakening the case for a candidate cause.
