Clastic sedimentary rock
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-005133
1. Rocks consisting of fragments, deposited as sand, silt, gravels, or with organic materials on beaches (tidal flats, shelfs, and barrier islands), in river channels (fluvial), in lagoons and swamps, in desert dunes (eolian) (Figure 1-11), in lakes (lacustrine), or as offshore submarine fans (turbidite).
2. Consolidation of loose sediments that have accumulated in layers,
3. Rock or sediment composed principally of broken fragments that are derived from preexisting rocks which have been transported from their place of origin, as in sandstone.
