Darcy's Law
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-007281
1. An empirically derived equation for the flow of fluids through porous media. It is based on the assumptions that flow is laminar and inertia can be neglected, and it states that the specific discharge, q, is directly proportional to the hydraulic conductivity, K, and the hydraulic gradient, I.
2. An empirical relationship between hydraulic gradient and the viscous flow of water in the saturated zone of a porous medium under conditions of laminar flow. The flux of vapors through the voids of the vadose zone can be related to a pressure gradient through the air permeability by Darcy's Law.
