Dosimeter
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-008454
1. An instrument to measure dosage; many so-called dosimeters actually measure exposure rather than dosage. Dosimetry is the process or technology of measuring and/or estimating dosage.
2. A personal radiation monitoring device that measures an individual’s accumulated radiation exposure. Active dosimeters feature a digital display and provide real-time dose readings and alarm when safe thresholds are exceeded. Passive dosimeters accumulate exposure data over time and do not provide instant readouts; instead, they are sent to a dosimetry laboratory for processing.
