Eutrophic

1. (you-TRO-fick) Reservoirs and lakes which are rich in nutrients and very productive in terms of aquatic animal and plant life.

2. An aquatic system with high nutrient concentrations, which fuels algal growth. This algae eventually dies and decomposes in a process that reduces the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water.

3. The state of a well-nourished, productive lake that typically exhibits low levels of dissolved oxygen.
