High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-013238

  1. 1. A filtering system capable of trapping and retaining at least 99.97 percent of all monodispersed particles 0.3 micro-meter in diameter or larger.

    2. Type of control device that uses a filter composed of a mat of randomly arranged fibers and is designed to remove at least 99.97 percent of airborne particles that are 0.3 micrometers or larger in diameter.

    3. Filtering system capable of trapping and retaining at least 99.97 percent of all monodispersed particles 0.3 µm in diameter or larger.

    4. Filter that has a 99.97 percent reduction efficiency for 0.3 micron aerosol.

    5. A filter that is at least 99.97 percent efficient in removing monodispersed particles of 0.3 microns in diameter. (NIOSH has exclusive authority for testing and certification of respirators and filter media, with the exception of certain mine emergency devices as described in 42 CFR 84.) For respirators, the equivalent filter under the rule is the P100 filter.

  2. A type of pleated mechanical air filter. This type of air filter can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm).
