Knockout

1. A shape or object printed by eliminating (knocking out) all background colors. Contrast to overprinting.

2. Inactivation of specific genes. Knockouts are often created in laboratory organisms such as yeast or mice so that scientists can study the knockout organism as a model for a particular disease.

3. Deactivation of specific genes; used in laboratory organisms to study gene function.
