Metabolism measurement

1. (Measurement of) all of the diverse reactions by which a cell processes food material to obtain energy and the compounds from which new cell components are made.
2. (Measurement of) the sum of the chemical reactions occurring within a cell or a whole organism; includes the energy-releasing breakdown of molecules (catabolism) and the synthesis of new molecules (anabolism).
