Plant Metabolism
Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-021164
1. The sum of the chemical reactions occurring within a cell or a whole organism; includes the energy-releasing breakdown of molecules (catabolism) and the synthesis of new molecules (anabolism).
2. A term that encompasses all of the diverse reactions by which a cell processes food material to obtain energy and the compounds from which new cell components are made.
3. The conversion or breakdown of a substance from one form to another by a living organism.
4. The total of all chemical changes that take place in a cell or an organism. These changes produce energy and basic materials needed for important life processes.
