piezometer

1. A nonpumping well, generally of small diameter, which is used to measure the elevation of the water table or potentiometric surface. A piezometer generally has a short well screen; the water level within the casing is considered to be representative of the potentiometric surface at that particular depth in the aquifer.
2. A nonpumping well, generally of small diameter, for measuring the elevation of a water table.
